Lyle Lovett at L.L.Bean
Its not often that you get to see a world class musician with a world class band at a well lit venue AND a good camera in hand...and no pressure to produce for a specific project. Lyle Lovett and his large band, supported by gospel choir: Gary Lyon & Living Water. A huge crowd, chair placers started lining up at 5am, made moving around pretty much impossible, but that, in turn, made me look harder and really pay attention to how I was metering and what decisions I was making. As the dark came on I switched to spot metering off of the faces, but then subtracting a stop to a stop and a half to really nail the details of the faces, giving up the stuff in the negative spaces...and that was ok. These images are color corrected and adjustments made in the upper and lower tones. It is tempting to want to put the files through noise reduction but, so far, I have not. All the images were made with a Sony A7s with old school manual Olympus Mount Zuiko lenses, mostly the 200mm f4 and the 135 f2.
